Five Al Jazeera journalists killed in Israeli strike near Al-Shifa hospital

Five Al Jazeera journalists were killed by an Israeli airstrike near Gaza City’s Al-Shifa Hospital on August 10, 2025, including prominent correspondent Anas al-Sharif, reporter Mohammed Qreiqeh, and cameramen Ibrahim Zaher, Moamen Aliwa, and Mohammed Noufal.

The journalists were inside a press tent just outside the main gate of Al-Shifa Hospital when the strike occurred, killing at least seven people in total and injuring others. The Israeli military confirmed targeting Anas al-Sharif, alleging he was a Hamas cell leader posing as a journalist—a claim strongly denied by Al Jazeera, press freedom organizations, and Palestinian journalist groups, all of whom characterized the strike as a targeted attack on media workers and called for accountability.

Anas al-Sharif’s “last post,” published posthumously on social media, described his commitment to reporting the truth for Gaza and urged resistance against oppression. The incident has sparked global condemnation and renewed concerns over the ongoing targeting of journalists during the Gaza conflict, with watchdog groups noting that around 200 media workers have been killed since the war began.
