Cruise Boat sinks with onboard in Madhya Pradesh Bargi Dam
A cruise boat operated by the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board capsized in Bargi Dam near Jabalpur on April 30, 2026, amid strong winds and a storm, resulting in at least four deaths. Rescue operations involving the Special Disaster Emergency Response Force (SDERF) and police are ongoing.
The boat carried around 30-31 tourists near Khamariya Island in the Narmada River reservoir when it sank. About 15 people swam to safety, four bodies have been recovered, and 11-12 remain missing.
Jabalpur District Magistrate Raghvendra Singh confirmed the casualties and stated that divers and teams are searching for the missing. The incident is developing, with overloading possibly contributing alongside weather conditions.
