Former Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Resigns From SIR Tribunal
Former Calcutta High Court Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam has resigned from the SIR Appellate Tribunal in West Bengal, and reports say he cited personal reasons.
The tribunal was hearing appeals from voters whose names were excluded during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, and Sivagnanam was also heading a three-member oversight panel of retired Calcutta High Court judges.
One report says the tribunal had cleared 1,777 appeals in 22 days, and Sivagnanam reportedly warned that at the existing pace it could take about four years to finish all Kolkata appeals.
