UAE reports drone strike at nuclear power plant as Iran war deadlock endures
A drone strike reportedly hit an electrical generator outside the inner perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi, causing a fire but no injuries or radiation impact. Officials said the plant’s essential systems remained normal, while the incident came amid stalled U.S.-Iran efforts to resolve the wider war and reopen Gulf shipping routes.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office said the drone struck a generator outside the plant’s inner boundary, and the UAE’s nuclear regulator said radiological safety levels were unaffected. No group immediately claimed responsibility.
The Barakah plant is the UAE’s main nuclear facility, so even a limited strike heightens regional anxiety about energy infrastructure and escalation risk. The timing is especially sensitive because diplomatic efforts around the Iran conflict are described as deadlocked.
The reports say this incident happened while ceasefire-related talks between the U.S. and Iran remain stuck, with broader tensions over Gulf shipping and the Strait of Hormuz still unresolved.
