Cockroach Janta Party Holds Protest at Jantar Mantar, Demands Education Reforms and Minister’s Resignation
In a significant display of youth-led activism, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) organized a protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, drawing hundreds of students and supporters from different parts of the country. The demonstration primarily demanded the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging repeated failures in handling examination irregularities and broader issues affecting India’s education system.
The movement, which gained massive popularity through social media, was led by its founder Abhijeet Dipke, who returned to India to participate in the protest. Supporters gathered carrying national flags, books, and symbolic cockroach-themed posters and masks, portraying the insect as a metaphor for resilience and survival despite adversity.
According to reports, the protest was conducted after permission was granted by authorities for a limited duration at Jantar Mantar. Security arrangements were strengthened around the venue, with police personnel deployed to maintain law and order and regulate the gathering.
A major focus of the demonstration was the demand for accountability over alleged examination paper leaks and concerns regarding opportunities for students and job seekers. Protesters argued that recurring controversies surrounding competitive examinations have undermined the confidence of millions of young aspirants and called for systemic reforms in the education sector.
During the event, educator and activist Sonam Wangchuk joined the gathering and addressed participants. He emphasized the need for meaningful reforms in education while reiterating that his objective is to encourage young people to take responsibility for improving public institutions rather than pursuing political office himself.
The organizers repeatedly appealed for a peaceful and disciplined demonstration, advising participants to avoid confrontation and maintain non-violence throughout the event. The movement’s messaging highlighted constitutional methods of protest and encouraged supporters to express their concerns through democratic means.
Political observers note that what began as a satirical online campaign has rapidly evolved into a visible youth movement capable of mobilizing crowds on the ground. Whether it develops into a lasting political force remains uncertain, but its emergence reflects growing frustration among sections of students and young citizens over education-related issues and employment prospects.
