Ram Mandir Donation Controversy: Allegations of Missing Cash, Gold and Silver Spark Political Storm; Claims Over CCTV Footage Trigger Demands for Probe
Questions Raised Over Temple Donations, But Trust Rejects Allegations and Says Audits Are Ongoing
A major controversy has erupted over allegations that crores of rupees in donations, along with gold and silver offerings at the Ram Mandir, are unaccounted for and that related CCTV footage was allegedly deleted. The claims have gained widespread attention after opposition leaders demanded judicial intervention and an independent investigation. However, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has strongly denied any financial irregularity, stating that periodic internal audits are underway and that no significant discrepancy has been detected so far.
The controversy intensified after allegations surfaced on social media and in political statements claiming that donations worth several crores—including cash, gold, and silver offerings made by devotees—had gone missing. Some reports also alleged that CCTV footage connected to the matter had been deleted, leading to demands for a forensic examination of surveillance systems and donation management procedures. As of now, these allegations remain claims in the public domain and have not been independently established by official investigative findings.
Responding to the controversy, the temple trust’s general secretary, Champat Rai, stated that the trust undergoes regular internal audits conducted by the trust and the State Bank of India and that the audit exercise was already in progress. According to the trust, nothing noteworthy had emerged during the ongoing verification process, and the allegations were rejected.
Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav publicly questioned where the donation money had gone and urged judicial authorities to take suo motu cognizance, describing the issue as one affecting the faith of millions of devotees. The political dimension of the controversy has intensified public debate, with demands from various quarters for transparency and an impartial inquiry.
Given the enormous volume of donations received by the temple—including cash and precious metals from devotees across India and abroad—experts note that transparent accounting, secure storage, CCTV preservation, and independent auditing are essential for maintaining public confidence. At present, however, there is no official finding confirming that donation money, gold, or silver has been stolen or that CCTV footage was deliberately deleted, and the matter remains the subject of allegations and public controversy rather than an established conclusion.
