CBI files closure report in Sushant Singh Rajput death case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed closure reports in two cases related to the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, concluding that there is no evidence to suggest foul play or abetment of suicide. This decision comes nearly five years after Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14, 2020. The CBI’s investigation, which began after the Bihar Police registered a case based on a complaint from Rajput’s father, has now determined that the circumstances surrounding his death align with a suicide.
Closure Reports Filed: The CBI submitted its findings to a special court in Mumbai, stating that the investigation revealed no involvement of individuals named in two FIRs, including Rhea Chakraborty and her family, as well as Rajput’s sister and a doctor. The agency characterized the case as a “simple case of suicide” without any evidence of coercion or abetment.
Investigation Findings: The CBI’s conclusion was supported by forensic analyses and witness statements. A forensic team from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had previously dismissed claims of murder or poisoning related to Rajput’s death.
Next Steps: The closure report must be reviewed by a magistrate, who will decide whether to accept it or order further investigations. If accepted, the case will be considered closed, but complainants retain the right to challenge this decision in higher courts.
Background: Rajput’s death sparked widespread media attention and public speculation, leading to various conspiracy theories about the circumstances surrounding his demise. Initial police investigations suggested suicide due to asphyxia from hanging, with no suicide note found.
The court is scheduled to hear the matter on April 8, 2025, where it will determine the fate of the closure reports filed by the CBI.
