Geminid meteor shower visible across the globe
The Geminid meteor shower peaks on December 13-14, 2025, making it visible worldwide under clear, dark skies. This annual event, one of the most reliable and intense showers, originates from debris of asteroid 3200 Phaethon and can produce up to 120-150 meteors per hour at its height.
Activity builds from evening on December 13, strongest around 2 a.m. local time when the radiant in Gemini is highest. A waning crescent moon ensures minimal light interference, ideal for viewing.
Northern Hemisphere observers see the best displays as the radiant rises early after sunset. Southern Hemisphere viewers, including India and Australia, can spot fewer but still vivid meteors from midnight into pre-dawn on December 14.
