Google Rolls Out Voice-Powered AI Features for Gmail, Docs and Keep
Google has begun rolling out new conversational voice capabilities across Gmail, Google Docs and Google Keep, allowing users to interact with the Workspace apps by speaking naturally instead of relying entirely on typing and manual searches. The features are powered by Google’s Gemini Audio technology and are being introduced as Gmail Live, Docs Live and Keep Live.
With Gmail Live, users can ask questions about information buried in their inbox. Instead of searching through multiple email threads, users can ask conversational questions such as details about a flight or upcoming events. Gmail Live can locate the relevant information and provide a spoken response, while showing the underlying email sources on screen for verification.
The feature also supports follow-up questions, allowing users to continue the conversation without starting a new search. Google is positioning the tool particularly for situations where users are travelling or otherwise unable to manually navigate their inbox.
Docs Live is designed to turn spoken ideas into structured documents. Users can talk through an idea, brainstorm or provide a “brain dump”, while Gemini organizes the information and helps create a first draft.
With user permission, Docs Live can also draw relevant information from Gmail, Google Drive, Google Chat and the wider web. This allows spoken instructions to be combined with existing information when preparing documents and other written material.
Keep Live takes a similar approach to note-taking. Users can speak freely about an idea, task or list, and Gemini can turn the spoken thoughts into organized notes or actionable lists rather than simply producing a raw transcript.
Google said the new capabilities are rolling out in English. Gmail Live is available to Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra subscribers, while Docs Live and Keep Live are available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Google Workspace business customers are expected to receive the features in a future rollout.
The rollout marks Google’s broader move toward making Workspace applications conversational, with users increasingly able to search, create, organize and refine information through natural speech rather than conventional typing and navigation.
