Government to decide implementation date for 8th Pay Commission
The Indian government has confirmed the constitution of the 8th Central Pay Commission but stated it will decide the implementation date later.
The Terms of Reference for the 8th Pay Commission were notified on November 3, 2025, by the Ministry of Finance. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary informed Parliament that the commission must submit its recommendations within 18 months, pointing to a potential report around mid-2027. No commitment exists for January 1, 2026, despite earlier speculation.
Around 50 lakh central government employees and 69 lakh pensioners await salary and pension revisions. The government plans to allocate funds once recommendations are accepted, but timelines remain open-ended amid ongoing parliamentary discussions.
