Hyderabad Metro Gets 20 Transgender Security Personnel
Hyderabad Metro Rail has inducted 20 transgender persons as security personnel as part of an initiative to promote inclusivity, dignity, and equal opportunity. After successfully completing induction security training, these personnel began their duties from December 1, 2025, at selected metro stations and inside metro trains. Their roles include ensuring safety, particularly for women commuters, assisting passengers with directions and information, monitoring baggage scanners, and maintaining a visible security presence across the metro premises.
This move aligns with Telangana government’s commitment to social empowerment and fostering a safe, inclusive environment. Women constitute about 30% of the daily metro commuters, and ensuring their safety is a priority. The inclusion of transgender personnel strengthens frontline passenger services and enhances the overall safety and confidence of all commuters in the metro system.
The initiative also reflects a broader commitment to empowering marginalized communities through meaningful employment and social inclusion by Hyderabad Metro Rail, one of India’s largest and advanced urban transit systems serving nearly 5 lakh passengers daily across three corridors and 57 stations.
