India’s Election Commission announces 2026 assembly election schedule
India’s Election Commission recently announced the schedule for 2026 assembly elections in five states and a union territory. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar revealed the dates during a press conference in New Delhi on March 14-15, 2026.
Elections will occur in single phases for most regions, except West Bengal.
The Election Commission confirmed over 800 constituencies will vote, with heightened security preparations like central force deployments. This follows review visits by the CEC to assess poll readiness.
