Mauni Amavasya: No-vehicle, No-VIP zone, UP govt readies plan for Kumbh biggest bathing day

The Uttar Pradesh government is implementing a comprehensive plan for the upcoming Mauni Amavasya, which falls on January 29, 2025, during the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. This day is expected to attract an estimated 8 to 10 crore devotees, making it one of the most significant bathing days of the festival.

No-Vehicle Zone: The entire Mela area will be declared a no-vehicle zone on Mauni Amavasya and the following day, Basant Panchami. This decision aims to manage the large crowds effectively and ensure safety during these peak days.

Traffic Management: Authorities have developed a detailed traffic management strategy, including one-way movement on pontoon bridges and designated entry and exit routes for pedestrians. This includes special arrangements for parking, with approximately 102 parking slots across 1900 hectares to accommodate around five lakh vehicles.

Enhanced Security Measures: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasized the need for robust security protocols, including increased police presence, improved mobile network coverage, and continuous operation of public transport services. The focus will also be on maintaining hygiene with regular maintenance of toilets and ensuring 24/7 electricity and water supply.

Special Facilities: The government plans to coordinate with local organizations to establish Lost and Found Centres and deploy Water Police and Ganga Doots at the ghats to assist devotees.

Significance of Mauni Amavasya

Mauni Amavasya is considered a highly auspicious day in Hinduism, where devotees observe silence (maun) and perform rituals to honor their ancestors. It is believed that taking a dip in the holy waters during this time cleanses sins and brings spiritual merit. The day will also feature a special bathing window known as Amrit Snan, which is particularly significant for devotees seeking spiritual purification.

As preparations continue, authorities are working diligently to ensure that the Maha Kumbh Mela remains a safe and spiritually enriching experience for millions of attendees.
