No more spam, junk, marketing, or fraudulent calls! Caller’s name will now be displayed alongside the number

India’s major telecom operators—Airtel, Jio, and Vi—are rolling out Calling Name Presentation (CNAP), a built-in feature that displays the registered caller’s name alongside their number on incoming calls, aiming to curb spam, junk, marketing, and fraudulent calls. This network-level service pulls data directly from telecom records, bypassing third-party apps like Truecaller for more reliable identification without privacy risks from crowdsourced databases.

CNAP integration involves equipment from vendors like Ericsson and Nokia, with rollout progressing as of late 2025. It shows the name linked to the SIM’s registered owner, helping users spot legitimate calls even from unknown numbers, though it may not always reflect the actual person using the SIM. No app installation is needed; the feature activates automatically once deployed by your operator.

Android users can complement CNAP with Google’s built-in Caller ID and spam protection, which warns about potential spam and identifies businesses—turn it on via Phone app settings. For businesses, services like Airtel’s Business Name Display verify legitimate calls to boost answer rates and trust. Truecaller remains an option but requires setting it as the default Caller ID app for full spam blocking.
