No Toll Tax for Two-Wheelers on National Highways

No Toll Tax for Two-Wheelers on National Highways

Recent viral reports and social media posts have claimed that two-wheelers (bikes and scooters) would be required to pay toll tax on national highways starting July 15, 2025. These claims have been officially and repeatedly denied by both the Government of India and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has publicly stated that these reports are false and that there is no proposal to impose toll tax on two-wheelers. He emphasized that the exemption on toll for two-wheelers will continue in full.

NHAI has also clarified via official channels that no such decision is under consideration and that all such reports are fake.

“Some media houses are spreading misleading news about imposing toll tax on two-wheeler vehicles. No such decision has been proposed. The exemption on toll for two-wheeler vehicles will continue fully.” — Nitin Gadkari

No toll tax will be imposed on two-wheelers from July 15, 2025.

No FASTag requirement or penalty for two-wheelers: The viral reports about two-wheelers needing FASTag or facing fines are baseless.

Toll-free travel for two-wheelers will continue: This policy is in place to support lower-income travelers and reduce congestion at toll plazas.

What Is Changing?

A new annual FASTag pass priced at ₹3,000 is being introduced for private four-wheelers (cars, jeeps, vans), effective August 15, 2025. This does not apply to two-wheelers.

All official sources confirm that there will be no toll tax for two-wheelers on national highways from July 15, 2025. The viral news and social media claims are false, and two-wheeler riders can continue to use national highways toll-free.
