Noida International Airport to Begin Operations on June 15, Marking a New Era for NCR Aviation
India’s Newest Greenfield Airport Set to Enhance Connectivity, Ease Delhi Airport Congestion, and Boost Regional Growth
The Noida International Airport is set to commence commercial flight operations on June 15, marking a major milestone for India’s aviation infrastructure and the National Capital Region (NCR). The launch is expected to provide a new gateway for passengers, airlines, and cargo operators while strengthening connectivity across northern India.
Developed at Jewar in Uttar Pradesh, the airport has been envisioned as a world-class aviation hub that will complement the existing Indira Gandhi International Airport by handling growing passenger and cargo traffic. Authorities believe the project will significantly reduce pressure on Delhi’s airport while supporting the rapid economic development of western Uttar Pradesh and the NCR.
The initial phase of operations will primarily focus on domestic passenger and cargo services, with international flight services expected to expand later in 2026. IndiGo is scheduled to operate the inaugural commercial flight and has already opened bookings for multiple routes, including destinations such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Amritsar, and Jammu, with additional services planned in subsequent weeks.
Ahead of the launch, the airport successfully completed extensive Operational Readiness, Activation and Transition (ORAT) trials, including full-scale aircraft turnaround exercises to test passenger handling, baggage systems, security procedures, and aircraft servicing capabilities. These simulations were designed to ensure smooth and safe commercial operations from the first day.
The Uttar Pradesh government has also initiated measures to improve last-mile connectivity by introducing fleets of electric and hydrogen-powered buses for Noida, Greater Noida, and the Yamuna City region. These initiatives align with broader plans to create sustainable transport infrastructure around the airport.
However, transportation challenges remain during the initial phase. Reports indicate that metro connectivity is not yet available, and public bus services may take additional time to become fully operational, meaning many passengers are likely to depend on cabs and private vehicles for access to the airport when commercial flights begin.
Beyond aviation, the airport is expected to act as a catalyst for industrial development, logistics, tourism, and real estate investment across the Yamuna Expressway region. Policymakers view the project as a cornerstone of long-term economic growth, with the potential to generate employment opportunities and attract domestic and international investment.
With commercial operations commencing on June 15, the Noida International Airport represents one of India’s most significant infrastructure achievements in recent years, promising enhanced connectivity, expanded aviation capacity, and a new growth engine for the NCR and beyond.
