Palash Muchhal faces case for alleged casteist remarks in Sangli
Music composer and director Palash Muchhal is facing a police case in Sangli, Maharashtra, following a complaint filed by Vigyan Prakash Mane, a childhood friend of cricketer Smriti Mandhana. The complaint alleges that Muchhal made casteist remarks against Mane during a dispute on November 22, 2025, at a toll plaza on the Sangli–Ashta road.
Allegations and Dispute
The core of the dispute involves a financial disagreement regarding a film project for which Mane claims he gave Muchhal ₹25 lakh. Mane alleges that he was promised the project would be completed within six months, but after the cancellation of Muchhal’s planned wedding to Smriti Mandhana in November 2025, he sought a refund of his money. According to the complaint, when Mane attempted to recover his funds, Muchhal abused him using caste-based derogatory language.
Legal Action
Following the complaint, the Sangli City Police registered a case against Muchhal. The charges invoked include:
-
Section 3(1) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act: Pertaining to the alleged use of casteist remarks.
-
Sections 351(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS): Related to assault and the use of criminal force.
Police have initiated an investigation into the matter. Muchhal has not yet made a detailed public statement regarding these specific new allegations, though he has previously urged the public to avoid spreading unverified rumors regarding his personal life.
