Trump Says Iran War Will End Immediately After U.S. Midterm Elections
U.S. President Donald Trump has predicted that the war with Iran will end “immediately” after the U.S. midterm elections on November 3. Trump said Tehran would not be able to withstand continued American economic pressure and accused Iran of trying to influence the election.
Trump argued that Iran is attempting to prolong the conflict to affect the political environment in the United States. He suggested Tehran wants a weaker U.S. Congress that would be more willing to leave Iran alone and allow it to pursue its nuclear ambitions.
His prediction comes as the conflict enters its seventh month, far longer than Trump’s original expectation that the campaign would last only several weeks. Recent fighting around the Strait of Hormuz has intensified, with Iran reporting attacks on ships after U.S. strikes against Iranian oil tankers.
The escalation has also pushed global energy prices higher. Brent crude moved above $100 a barrel, while U.S. gasoline prices have climbed sharply, increasing pressure on American consumers ahead of the midterm vote. Trump said oil and gasoline prices would fall after the war ends.
Trump said negotiations with Tehran remain possible but are not currently being pursued by Washington. His administration is instead emphasizing economic pressure, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said Iran will continue to face costs for attacks on U.S. naval forces.
However, there is significant uncertainty over Trump’s timeline. A report in The Wall Street Journal said senior administration officials have privately discussed the possibility that the conflict could continue for years, potentially even through the end of Trump’s current term.
The November election could therefore become a major political and strategic turning point. Trump’s claim of an immediate post-election end to the war contrasts sharply with the administration’s preparations for a potentially prolonged confrontation with Tehran.
