Venezuela vice president Rodriguez in Russia?
No confirmed presence in Russia. Reports emerged claiming Venezuela’s Vice President Delcy Rodríguez was in Russia amid the recent U.S. capture of President Nicolás Maduro on January 3, 2026, but these have been denied by Russian officials.
Four sources told Reuters that Rodríguez was in Russia, following her audio demand for proof of Maduro’s life broadcast on Venezuelan state TV. Russia’s Foreign Ministry dismissed these claims as “fake” after Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke with her by phone, reaffirming support for Venezuela.
State media showed Rodríguez appearing to speak from Caracas during a National Defense Council session, urging unity against U.S. actions. Russian state news agency TASS and other outlets confirmed she was not physically in the country.
Rodríguez has visited Russia previously, such as in 2019 for talks with Lavrov and in 2024 for energy events, strengthening bilateral ties. No evidence supports a current visit as of January 4, 2026.
