VVIP passes cancelled, strict restrictions imposed till February 4, Major changes in Prayagraj after Maha Kumbh stampede
Following a tragic stampede during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj that resulted in the deaths of 30 people and injuries to around 60 others, the Uttar Pradesh government has implemented strict measures to enhance safety and manage crowd control. The incident occurred on January 29, 2025, as millions of pilgrims gathered for a holy dip on Mauni Amavasya, leading to a surge that overwhelmed barricades.
Complete No-Vehicle Zone: All vehicles are prohibited from entering the Maha Kumbh fair area to prevent congestion and ensure safety.
Cancellation of VVIP Passes: Special passes that allowed certain vehicles to enter the fair area have been revoked, eliminating exceptions for VIPs.
One-Way Traffic Routes: A one-way traffic system has been introduced to streamline the movement of devotees and reduce crowding.
Vehicle Entry Restrictions: Vehicles from neighboring districts are being stopped at district borders to further alleviate congestion in the city.
Strict Restrictions Until February 4: The entry of four-wheelers into Prayagraj is completely banned until this date as part of the effort to maintain order during the festival.
These measures reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety at one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, especially following such a devastating incident.
