Google’s Gemini Spark Can Now Manage Your Google Photos Library
Google has expanded the capabilities of its Gemini Spark personal AI agent by integrating it with Google Photos, allowing users to manage, organize, edit and share their photo libraries through natural-language prompts. The new functionality is rolling out gradually to eligible users.
With the integration, Gemini Spark can search photos and videos by subject, location, date or event, identify the best images and filter out duplicates. Users can then ask Spark to organize selected images into new private or shared albums.
Spark can also perform editing and creative tasks, including enhancing image quality, applying quick fixes, generating collages and creating stylized images. Google says edits are saved as new copies, leaving the original photographs untouched.
The agent can combine Google Photos with other connected Google services. For example, a user can ask Spark to examine a photograph of a concert announcement, extract the relevant information and cross-reference it with Google Calendar. Information extracted from images can also be summarized or reformatted in Google Docs.
Another significant addition is the ability to create recurring workflows. Users can instruct Spark to periodically find their best food photographs, create a collage and add it to an album, or automatically organize photographs of receipts. Such scheduled tasks can run according to instructions provided by the user.
Spark can also assist with sharing. It can create shared albums and send or add album links through connected applications such as Gmail, Google Docs and Messages. However, Google says new albums are private by default and Spark asks for permission before sharing an album or sending an email.
The Google Photos integration is currently being rolled out to eligible users aged 18 and above in the United States, in English, and requires access to Gemini Spark. Google says the feature is available through the Gemini mobile app and the Gemini web application.
Google has not announced a timetable for wider international availability. The company is positioning the integration as another step toward making Gemini a more agentic assistant capable of carrying out multi-stage tasks across Google’s ecosystem rather than merely answering questions.
