Pakistan: More than 100 passengers rescued from militant train attack

In a recent militant attack on a passenger train in Pakistan’s Balochistan region, more than 100 passengers were rescued by security forces.

Location and Target: The Jaffar Express, carrying approximately 400 passengers, was attacked by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) in the Bolan district of Balochistan. The train was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar when it came under fire.

Method of Attack: Militants detonated explosives on the railway track, causing the train to derail near Tunnel Number 8. They then stormed the train, taking control and holding passengers hostage.

Security Forces’ Action: Pakistani security forces launched a counter-operation, engaging in a fierce battle with the militants. They managed to rescue over 100 hostages, including men, women, and children.

Casualties and Injuries: At least 16 militants were killed during the operation. The train’s driver and some security personnel were injured or killed in the initial attack.

Hostage Situation: The BLA claimed to have taken over 100 hostages, including security personnel. They issued threats of executing the hostages if security forces intervened further.

Insurgency Background: The attack is part of a long-standing insurgency in Balochistan, where separatist groups like the BLA demand greater autonomy and a fair share of the region’s resources.

Emergency Measures: The Balochistan government declared an emergency in response to the attack, mobilizing security forces and activating emergency protocols at hospitals.
