Spirit’s statement explicitly reads: “To our Guests: all flights have been cancelled, and customer service is no longer available.” This follows its second Chapter 11 bankruptcy in two years, failed merger attempts, and unsuccessful bids for a $500 million federal bailout under the Trump administration.
The closure impacts over 15,000 employees and leaves a gap at hubs like Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, where Spirit held 28% market share in 2025.
Refunds will process automatically for tickets bought directly with credit or debit cards; third-party bookings require contacting the seller.
Other airlines like JetBlue, Frontier, and American are offering help, such as rescue fares or support for rebooking.
