India gets Trump’s invite to join Board of Peace on Gaza, ambassador says
US President Donald Trump has invited India to join his “Board of Peace” initiative focused on Gaza, with the US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, publicly sharing the letter addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Board of Peace aims to oversee a technocratic committee managing Gaza’s daily affairs under a US-backed ceasefire plan, with Trump as lifelong chair. Funds from permanent memberships, requiring a $1 billion contribution, would support Gaza’s reconstruction.
Countries like Pakistan, Jordan, Greece, and Cyprus have also received invitations, though Israel has objected to the plan’s lack of coordination. India has not yet responded officially to the invite.
This forms phase two of Trump’s 20-point Gaza ceasefire framework, endorsed by the UN Security Council, with potential expansion to other global conflicts. Tensions in US-India trade relations add complexity to India’s potential involvement.
