Iran warns US blockade of strait of Hormuz would violate ceasefire

Iran has issued a strong warning that any US-led blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would breach the ongoing ceasefire agreement with the United States and Israel.

President Donald Trump directed the US Navy to blockade ships entering or exiting the Strait of Hormuz after 21-hour peace talks in Islamabad collapsed over Iran’s nuclear program and proposed tolls on vessels. The US military specified the action targets Iranian ports starting April 13 at 10 AM ET, allowing non-Iranian vessels to transit while aiming to cut Tehran’s revenue.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy stated that military ships approaching the strait would face “harsh & decisive action” or “severe repercussions,” viewing it as a ceasefire violation until at least April 22. The IRGC emphasized the strait remains under their control, open to civilian ships under regulations, and rejected US claims.

Talks failed amid disputes over Iran’s nuclear ambitions and strait access, with Trump also threatening strikes on Iranian infrastructure like power stations. Oil prices have surged due to fears of energy disruption in this vital global chokepoint.
