U.S. President Donald Trump has removed a controversial AI‑generated image of himself that appeared to depict him in a Jesus‑like role, after drawing sharp criticism from religious leaders and political figures across the spectrum.
What the image showed
The post, shared on his Truth Social platform, displayed Trump wearing white robes and placing a glowing hand on the forehead of a man in a hospital bed, with light radiating from his head and hand, against a backdrop of an American flag, fighter jets, and figures looking reverently at him. Critics said the composition closely resembled traditional Christian paintings of Jesus healing the sick, leading to accusations of blasphemy and self‑deification.
Trump’s explanation
Trump acknowledged posting the image but claimed he believed it portrayed him as a doctor “making people better,” not as Jesus. He linked the imagery to a supposed “Red Cross” theme, arguing that he was symbolically healing or helping citizens, though this explanation did little to quiet the backlash.
Political and religious backlash
The post drew condemnation from conservative Christian leaders and some of Trump’s usual allies, who said it was offensive and inappropriate for a sitting president.
