Google is building an AI agent that could be its answer to OpenClaw
Google is developing an internal AI agent called Remy, powered by Gemini, as a potential rival to the popular open-source autonomous agent OpenClaw.
What is Remy?
Remy operates as a “24/7 personal agent” within a staff-only version of the Google Gemini app, designed to take proactive actions like handling tasks across Google services such as Gmail, Calendar, and Docs, rather than just responding to queries.
It monitors user preferences, learns over time, and manages complex multi-step workflows for work, school, or daily life, according to internal documents reviewed by outlets like Business Insider.
Currently, Remy is in employee testing (dogfooding) phase with no public release date announced.
OpenClaw Background
OpenClaw is a free, open-source AI agent framework that uses large language models to execute real-world tasks autonomously via messaging platforms like Telegram, such as responding to emails, research, or code deployment.
It gained viral popularity earlier in 2026 for turning AI into “digital workers” that act independently.
Remy mirrors this by emphasizing action over chat, deeply integrating with Google’s ecosystem for similar autonomy.
