Mohan Yadav Files: Congress Targets MP Chief Minister Over Alleged Ujjain Land Deals, Demands Resignation

Mohan Yadav Files: Congress Targets MP Chief Minister Over Alleged Ujjain Land Deals, Demands Resignation

Congress Alleges Family Benefited From Ujjain Infrastructure Push; CM’s Kin Reject Charges

A major political controversy has erupted in Madhya Pradesh after an investigation alleged that the family members and associated real-estate firms of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav acquired at least 137 land parcels spanning approximately 168 acres in Ujjain after he assumed office in December 2023. The acquisitions, reportedly worth around ₹45 crore, were allegedly concentrated in areas that later benefited from road projects, highway links, and land-use changes announced by the state government.

What the Investigation Claims

According to an investigation published by The Indian Express, members of the Chief Minister’s extended family and family-linked real-estate companies purchased 137 plots covering about 168 acres in Ujjain between December 2023 and the end of 2025. The report alleges that around 111 acres are located near road and highway projects announced by the Yadav government, particularly in villages such as Gangedi, Unhel, Jaiwantpur and Chandesara.

The report further states that several of the purchased properties fall within areas expected to benefit from changes proposed under the Ujjain Master Plan 2035, which envisions significant urban expansion and conversion of agricultural land into residential and commercial zones.

Congress Calls It an “Engine of Plunder”

The opposition Indian National Congress has launched a sharp attack on the Chief Minister, branding the alleged transactions as an “engine of loot” and a “Mahakal land scam.” Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari demanded Yadav’s resignation and called for an inquiry by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court. Patwari questioned how the family’s land holdings allegedly expanded substantially after Yadav became Chief Minister and sought public clarification regarding the transactions.

Congress leaders argue that even if the purchases were technically legal, they raise serious questions about conflict of interest, propriety, and whether politically connected individuals had advance knowledge of future infrastructure development.

What the Chief Minister’s Side Says

As of the latest reports, no evidence has been presented publicly showing that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav personally directed any land-use decisions to benefit family members. A senior state government official quoted in reports argued that it would be inappropriate to automatically connect the business activities of the Chief Minister’s relatives with official government decisions.

Reports citing family members indicate that the Yadav family has been involved in real-estate activities for years and that the purchases were part of ongoing business operations rather than a response to insider information or government decisions.

Why Ujjain Is at the Centre of the Controversy

Ujjain has emerged as one of Madhya Pradesh’s fastest-growing property markets due to large-scale infrastructure investments, religious tourism projects, road expansion plans, and preparations linked to future development initiatives around the city. Land values in several surrounding villages have risen sharply amid expectations of urban expansion and future commercial development.

The political sensitivity is heightened because questions relating to land-use changes and development planning in Ujjain have surfaced before in state politics, making the latest allegations particularly significant.

Key Questions Now Being Asked

  1. Were the land purchases conducted entirely at market rates and in accordance with law?
  2. Did any family members possess non-public information regarding future road alignments or land-use changes?
  3. Were any government decisions influenced by the existence of these holdings?
  4. Will an independent inquiry be ordered to examine the allegations?
  5. Can Congress substantiate its allegations with documentary evidence beyond the reported land records?

Political Impact

The issue is likely to become a major flashpoint in Madhya Pradesh politics. The Congress is expected to intensify its campaign by highlighting alleged conflicts of interest, while the BJP will likely argue that no illegality has been demonstrated and that family members engaged in legitimate business transactions. Whether the controversy develops into a formal investigation may determine its long-term political consequences.

Congress has demanded the resignation of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav after reports alleged that his family acquired 168 acres of land in Ujjain amid major government infrastructure projects. The controversy has sparked calls for an independent probe.
