Anthropic commits to spending $200 billion on Google’s cloud and chips: Report
Anthropic has reportedly committed to spend $200 billion with Google Cloud over five years, including access to Google’s cloud and chip capacity. Reuters says the report came via The Information and could not be immediately verified by Reuters, while both Anthropic and Google declined to comment.
The deal is described as a large infrastructure commitment tied to Google’s TPU chip capacity and cloud services, with some reporting noting expected capacity coming online from 2027. The reported size is also framed as more than 40% of Google’s recently disclosed revenue backlog.
If accurate, the agreement would highlight how expensive frontier AI training and serving has become, with labs reserving huge amounts of compute in advance. It also underscores the multi-cloud strategy used by major AI firms to avoid dependence on a single chip or cloud provider.
Following the report, Alphabet’s shares reportedly rose about 2% in after-hours trading. The report also linked Anthropic and OpenAI contracts to more than half of the roughly $2 trillion backlog across major cloud providers, according to the cited outlet.
