Donald Trump deploys more military planes for mass deportations

Trump’s Military Aircraft for Deportations: The Trump administration is deploying military aircraft, specifically C-17s, for daily deportation flights as part of a crackdown on illegal immigration. This marks a significant shift from the previous administration’s approach, with the first military flights already transporting migrants to Guatemala.

Expansion of Deportation Resources: Deputy White House Chief of Staff Stephen Miller announced that the administration is seeking additional aircraft to expedite deportations, including options from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Defense (DOD). The use of commercial aircraft, specifically through the Civil Reserve Air Fleet (CRAF), is also being considered, which would be an unprecedented move for deportations.

Operational Control and Troop Deployment: Following an executive order from Trump, the Pentagon is preparing to send up to 10,000 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border. This includes deploying additional active-duty personnel to support Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in controlling immigration and conducting deportations.

Legal and Social Implications: The aggressive immigration policies have raised concerns among immigrant rights groups, who argue that these actions could harm millions of undocumented individuals living in the U.S. Legal challenges are anticipated as Trump’s administration seeks to implement these hardline measures.

Current Status of Deportations: As of now, deportation flights have commenced with military involvement, and further missions are expected as the administration aims to increase the pace of deportations. The military’s role in this context is primarily supportive, focusing on logistical aspects rather than direct law enforcement.
