Fire breaks out in parked vehicles near Mahakumbh Mela; no injuries
A fire broke out early Saturday morning, January 25, 2025, in two parked vehicles near the Mahakumbh Mela venue in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred around 6:30 AM when a Maruti Ertiga car caught fire, leading to the rapid response of six fire brigades and water tenders, which successfully extinguished the flames without any reported injuries.
According to UP fire services officer Vishal Yadav, the fire was attributed to extreme heat generated by the large number of vehicles parked for the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest spiritual gatherings. The Ertiga was completely burnt while another vehicle suffered partial damage. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, especially in light of a previous incident at the venue involving a cylinder explosion that resulted in significant damage.
Despite this incident, the Mahakumbh Mela continues to draw massive crowds, with over 48.76 lakh devotees reported to have visited as of Friday evening.
