How a fake ‘Rahul Gandhi secretary’ swindled crores from Congress leaders across states
A conman named Gaurav Kumar impersonated Rahul Gandhi’s former secretary, Kanishk Singh, to defraud Congress leaders of crores across states like Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar.
Kumar created a fake Truecaller profile under Kanishk Singh’s name and used voice recordings mimicking senior Congress leaders to build credibility during calls. He gathered victim details from public sites like myneta.info, then promised election tickets or party posts in exchange for payments, fabricating high-command meetings.
Police arrested the 42-year-old from Amritsar in Dehradun’s Jakhan area on May, 2026, while he targeted another victim; he was remanded to 14-day judicial custody. Associates like Chajju, Rajat Mada, and Maninder Singh are under investigation, with prior cases in multiple states. Authorities suspect more victims and are probing the full scam extent.
