Madras High Court Directs Registry To List Plea Seeking FIR, PMLA Probe Against TVK Chief Vijay Over Alleged Suppression Of Income

The Madras High Court has directed its registry to list a petition seeking an FIR and PMLA probe against Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay for alleged income suppression and unaccounted cash receipts.

A bench led by Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan ruled on May 6, 2026, that the registry cannot refuse to number petitions over maintainability doubts, as this is a judicial function. The court ordered the plea “numbered subject to maintainability” and listing before the roster bench, while directing the Registrar General to circulate the order to ensure compliance.

Filed in April 2026 by Chennai resident M. Rajkumar, the writ petition urges the Income Tax Department to probe materials from prior tax searches, Vijay’s sworn statements, and a Rs 1.5 crore penalty order from 2015-16 (related to film Puli income). It seeks prosecution under the Income Tax Act (e.g., Section 276C), FIR under IPC sections for cheating, forgery, and conspiracy, plus PMLA assessment.

This marks the third petition before the Madras HC on Vijay’s finances, amid TVK’s strong showing in the May 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections (108 seats won). Earlier pleas highlighted affidavit discrepancies (e.g., Rs 115 crore vs. Rs 220 crore assets across constituencies), with notices issued to Vijay, Election Commission, and tax authorities.
