More than 100 sickened by norovirus on Princess Cruises ship
A norovirus outbreak on the Caribbean Princess cruise ship has sickened over 100 people, matching recent reports from the CDC. This incident occurred during a voyage from April 28 to May 11, 2026, with the ship scheduled to arrive in Port Canaveral, Florida, today.
The CDC confirmed 102 passengers (out of 3,116) and 13 crew members (out of 1,131) reported symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting, reported on May 7. This represents about 3.3% of those on board, and it’s the fourth such cruise ship outbreak this year.
Princess Cruises isolated ill individuals, ramped up cleaning and disinfection, and collected stool samples for testing. The ship will receive comprehensive sanitization upon arrival before its next trip.
Norovirus is highly contagious and common on cruises due to close quarters, but outbreaks are contained through protocols like those followed here. An earlier March 2026 outbreak on the Star Princess affected 193 people (141 passengers, 52 crew) with similar symptoms.
