Bharat Taxi officially launched in India

Bharat Taxi, India’s first government-backed cooperative ride-hailing service, was officially launched on February 5, 2026, by Union Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi at Vigyan Bhavan. It followed pilot operations in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat’s Saurashtra region starting December 2025, with over 3 lakh drivers onboarded and 10,000 daily rides by launch. The service began fully in Delhi-NCR and plans nationwide expansion to all states within 2-3 years.

It operates on a zero-commission model where drivers retain full fares (paying only a flat fee like Rs 30/day), ensuring no surge pricing and up to 30% lower fares than competitors. Safety includes verified drivers, one-tap SOS to police, emergency alerts, and siren buttons. The app supports cabs, autos, bike taxis, with real-time tracking and multilingual interfaces.
