Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif Claims Final Draft Is Ready as Diplomatic Efforts Move Toward Ending Regional Conflict
In a major diplomatic development, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the United States and Iran have agreed on the final text of a peace deal, describing the negotiations as being closer to success than ever before. According to Sharif, Pakistan has played a central mediation role and is now working with both parties to finalize the remaining procedural steps toward a formal agreement.
Sharing the announcement on social media, Sharif stated that despite what he called an “incessant misinformation campaign” aimed at sabotaging the negotiations, “a final, agreed upon text of the peace deal has been reached” and that Pakistan is coordinating with both Washington and Tehran on the next phase of the process. He added that “peace has never been this close as it is now.”
The announcement comes after weeks of heightened military tensions in the Middle East and intensive diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan and several regional stakeholders. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also indicated that an agreement “has never been closer,” while urging the media to avoid speculation until the memorandum is formally finalized and publicly released.
However, officials on both sides have also urged caution. Reports indicate that while broad agreement on the framework exists, negotiations over implementation details—including issues related to Iran’s nuclear program, sanctions relief, and regional security arrangements—still require further technical discussions. U.S. officials have suggested that the current document could serve as a memorandum of understanding or letter of intent, followed by a defined negotiation period for detailed commitments.
One of the most significant potential consequences of a successful agreement would be the normalization of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor through which a substantial share of the world’s oil trade passes. Optimism surrounding the negotiations has already affected international energy markets, with crude oil prices falling as investors anticipate reduced geopolitical risks and improved supply conditions.
Despite the optimistic statements, uncertainty remains. U.S. President Donald Trump has emphasized that some publicly circulated descriptions of the agreement do not accurately reflect the negotiated terms, while Iranian officials have indicated that final details will only be disclosed after formal approval. These differing public messages suggest that although diplomatic progress is substantial, the process has not yet reached complete implementation.
If successfully concluded, the agreement could represent one of the most consequential diplomatic breakthroughs in the Middle East in recent years, potentially reducing military tensions, stabilizing global energy markets, and opening the door for broader regional negotiations. Until the memorandum is officially signed and its provisions published, however, observers are treating the announcement as a significant breakthrough rather than the final conclusion of the peace process.
