VD Satheesan finalized as Kerala Chief Minister choice
V. D. Satheesan has been finalized as the Congress-led UDF’s choice for Kerala Chief Minister, with the party announcing him after days of suspense and internal deliberations. He is reported to take oath on 18 May 2026.
Congress picked Satheesan over the other prominent contenders, including K. C. Venugopal, after consultations in the party high command. Reports say the announcement came after nearly 10–11 days of negotiations and factional discussion.
Satheesan’s selection is being read as a significant political signal inside the Congress, especially because the decision reportedly balanced cadre sentiment, alliance dynamics, and leadership considerations. The move also ends uncertainty after the UDF’s election win in Kerala.
Media reports indicate that Satheesan was announced as CLP leader and CM-elect, and the formal swearing-in was scheduled for 18 May 2026.
