Delhi High Court orders preservation of Sunjay Kapur’s assets
The Delhi High Court has ordered preservation of late Sunjay Kapur’s assets and maintained status quo, including restraint on third-party rights over the estate pending further proceedings.
The court said the assets must be preserved and should not be dissipated, and it restrained transfers or alienation while the dispute is decided. Reports also say bank accounts and cryptocurrency holdings were directed to remain non-operational for the time being.
The order gives interim protection to Sunjay Kapur’s children, who had challenged the alleged will and sought protection of the estate until the court examines the disputed circumstances. Media reports estimate the estate at around Rs 30,000 crore.
The court reportedly noted “suspicious circumstances” surrounding the purported will and indicated that these must be addressed before the will can be accepted. It also directed that equity shareholdings in his Indian companies not be changed and that personal effects, including artwork, not be disposed of.
The dispute is reported to involve Priya Kapur and the children from Sunjay Kapur’s marriage with Karisma Kapoor, along with concerns raised by his family over asset preservation. The matter is still at an interim stage, so the final ownership questions remain undecided.
